The Carnaval Experience tour in Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro city is known in all the world because the Carnaval parties that happens every year. Many tourists come to the city intending to know more about this Brazilian tradition. The Carnaval experience tour is an opportunity to try it even the tourist doesn’t intend to go to the Carnaval parade.
The tour is made for Acadêmicos do Grande Rio samba school. It happens monday to saturday at 11h and 16h. Each group can have 30 people. The guides speak portuguese and english. The tour costed 75 reals on january 2019 and took about 2 hours.

When the tour starts the guide says some orientations. In some areas it is not allowed taking pictures because they make the costumes and the cars to the parade day. They keep it in secret until the last moment.
Futhermore the guide explain how all te party is made. In each samba school is possible to have 200 people working in some months in the year. They recycle most of the materials to produce costumes and cars. During the tour the tourists can see some costumes from previous years parade.
They teach the tourists abou the carnaval history too. I will not say everything I heard there because you have to go there to see. A festivity called entrudo was one of the first way to celebrate Carnaval in the country during the colonial. This party was originally from Portugal but in the colony was celebrated by the slaves. They usually painted their faces making them white. They usually threw all kinds of liquid (even semem and urine) or powders in people.
The visitors can wear some Carnaval costumes and take pictures. We did it!
In the tour the tourists have a samba class with a dancer. It is fun you should try!
In the end they offer caipirinha and lemon juice. It is possible buy some souvenirs. The money that they make in the tour in sent to the samba kids school Pimpolhos da Grande Rio. They invest in the education of kids and teenages that participate of the parades.
A tip:
If you want to join the parade the samba school Acadêmicos do Grande Rio sells about 5% of the costumes. They cost about 1200 reals.
