Sailing in Rio de Janeiro
In the city of Rio de Janeiro it is possible to have different experiences. There are many sightseeing options there and we’ve written about many of them as well. We wrote about going to Cagarras Islands, Sugar Loaf and Red Beach, Carnaval Experience tour and other things you can experience in Rio. In this post we are going to show one more good option.
In April 2019 I had the opportunity to take a boat trip in the coastal waters of Rio de Janeiro with the Sail in Rio company. This tour was very different from anything I’ve done before, because it was a sailing boat.
The sailboat I boarded was named “Kamehameha”. It is commanded by Captain Cassio Gurjão. The boarding always takes place in Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro in neighborhood of Urca.

Before the boat departs for its jouney, they say some safety instructions. The boat has the proper equipment to meet the needs of all persons onboard. The team also offers drinks and some appetizers.
The boat’s engine is running and the tour begins but after some minutes they turn it off, and they let the wind take us.
The way can vary because of the wind. Sometimes it is possible to go to Cagarras Islands for example. At last the winds control everything in this tour!
In the sea you can see birds, islands, etc… What a beautiful city!
It was a beautiful day full of sunshine and Capt. Cassio took us to Niterói coast.
Do you want to try it? This tour is made for 10 people and costs about 200 reais. There are options of 3 hour tours (for groups or private) and 5 hour tours (only private tours).
The team speaks spanish and english. In case of unfavorable weather conditions the tour can be canceled. If this happens and payment has been made in advance, the company can either give a refund or reschedule your tour if you would like.
